About us

Who we are

Technobis is a world-leading laboratory technology provider for chemical synthesis, solid-state research, process development and formulation.
Our mission is to help research succeed!

What we do

Since 2005, our platforms for accelerating crystallization research (CrystalBreeder™, Crystal16® and Crystalline™) have been successfully developed and installed in nearly every pharmaceutical research lab in the world. With this strong global presence, we help the scientific community to drive forward the rapidly advancing pharmaceutical development space. In recent years, we have been developing new applications in agrochemical, fine chemical, (bio) fuel research, food, and personal care. We are always searching for new markets in which crystallization research and technology can engineer progress for the benefit of researchers, manufacturers, and consumers.

In 2024, we expanded our instrument portfolio beyond crystallization research and into the broader field of chemical process research and development. With the game changing ReactALL™ instrument, we empower process chemists across various markets to successfully screen and optimize their reaction experiments for production, with unprecedented efficiency.

Close collaboration with academic and commercial partners allows us to leverage their expertise and constantly innovate. We incorporate the latest technologies and features to build instruments ready for the Lab of the Future - from artificial intelligence and robotic integration to automation and interoperability.

Designed by scientists, for scientists.

Crystallization R&D portfolio

With our crystallization screening workflow, scientists can now perform well-controlled crystallization studies from hit and lead identification to process scale-up and formulation.

  • The CrystalBreeder™ is the first crystallizer dedicated to both development and discovery, carrying out complete crystallization screens with as little as 1 mg of sample.
  • The Crystal16® parallel crystallizer is a multiple reactor station providing a screening solution for solubility determination, solid-state research, and process development: medium-throughput crystallization studies at a 1 mL scale.
  • The Crystalline™ is a unique analytical instrument at a working volume of just 2.5 to 5 mL, that allows scientists to access crystallization and formulation information at milliliter scale. With 8 in-line microscopic cameras reaching up to 0.63 microns per pixel, seeing what is happening in the vial has never been easier.

Chemical process R&D portfolio

With our latest development, the ReactALL™, we expanded our instrument portfolio beyond crystallization research and into the broader field of chemical process research and development. ReactALL is an innovative benchtop multiple reactor system with automated sampling and overhead stirring for medium-throughput experimentation. This cutting-edge instrument is specifically designed to address the needs of chemical reaction screening and optimization, route scouting as well as process development and optimization.

History

Technobis is a pioneer in the field of chemical synthesis, solid-state research, process development and formulation. We have developed a number of unique and proprietary technologies.

Initially the company operated under the name of Avantium Crystallization Systems. Avantium Crystallization Systems was a subsidiary of Avantium Holding, a company founded in February 2000 as a spin-off from Shell. A unique consortium of strategic shareholders including Pfizer, GSK, Eastman Chemical, WR Grace and Akzo Nobel joined as strategic partners and invested in Avantium. The company focused on high-throughput experimentation with applications across a range of industries and created one of the most advanced chemical laboratories in the world. In January 2015, the company was acquired by its longtime engineering, development and manufacturing partner Technobis BV.

Technobis is a group of companies providing development and supply of high-tech instruments and modules for companies worldwide.

Technobis offices and headquarters are based in Alkmaar, The Netherlands.
